On April 9, 2013 Tomas Vitela Casarez passed away in Sanger,
California at the age 87. Tomas was born on December 29, 1925 in El Ranchito, near
Jalpa, Zacatecas, Mexico to Antonio Casarez and Ma. Refugio Vitela.
Tomas migrated north from Mexico in the 1950’s to work as a farm
laborer in Texas and other parts of the United States, eventually settling in Sanger,
California in the 1970’s. On November 10th, 1980 Tomas became a
naturalized U.S. citizen.
Tomas loved gardening, planting roses, fruits, vegetables and
especially sunflowers. He was a fountain of knowledge regarding the customs, foods, and plants of Mexico. He enjoyed daily walks to Sanger Park where he would
pass time by playing cards with his friends. His humor and laughter were
intoxicating. He was very kind and welcoming to all who came to his home.
Tomas is survived by his two brothers and three sisters. Also,
his wife Sara, nine children: Julieta, Lorena, Silvia, Minerva, Miguel, Julian,
Cristina, Eddie, and Tomas Jr, 18
grandchildren: Francisco Jr, Gustavo Jr, Michael, Vanessa, Adriana, Desiree,
Jonathan, Edgar, Natali, Bianca, Mark David, Victor Jr, Yngwie, Anahi,
Kimberly, Ashley, Teo and one great grandchild, Lily.

day we meet again beloved
